How the Bridge-Day Holiday Optimizer Works

Learn how the Bridge-Day Holiday Optimizer uses country holiday calendars, workweeks, leave budgets, and date constraints to find breaks.

Calendar data

Bridge-Day attributes national holiday information to the Open-Source Python-Holidays Library. The website also displays the supplied holiday category, date certainty, regional scope, and calendar update date where available. Calendar snapshots are generated from the JSON files maintained with the project; the interactive planner continues to load its live calendar using its configured calendar service.

A calendar can be incomplete, estimated, or different from an employer’s schedule. Confirm important dates with an official local source.

How break suggestions are calculated

The planner builds a day-by-day view from the selected year’s public holidays and your normal workweek. It considers consecutive ranges that include a public holiday and at least one leave day, then selects compatible ranges within your leave budget and break limit. Each result shows the date range, total days off, leave days used, and return. A suggestion lasts at least three days and uses no more than two leave days.

User constraints

Users can customize workdays, leave budget, days-off target, break count, excluded holiday categories, and dates when leave is unavailable. A blocked public holiday that falls on a normal workday is treated as a working date that the optimizer cannot use; a date on the user’s normal day off remains a day off.

Estimated and non-public dates

Estimated dates are visibly marked and should be checked before travel is booked. Non-public observances remain available in the calendar where supplied, but they do not count as days off in the optimizer by default. Regional records apply only where the calendar provides matching subdivision data.

Your settings and calendar updates

Workweek preferences, leave settings, blocked dates, language, and saved plans are stored in local browser or device storage. The calendar status shows whether the latest calendar or a saved offline calendar is in use and displays update or fetch dates when those details are supplied. Country and year availability can change as calendar data is published.
