A workday between days off
A bridge day is a normal workday that sits between a weekend and a public holiday, or between two periods when you are already off. Taking annual leave on that date can connect the surrounding days into one longer break.
The term is descriptive rather than a legal category. Whether a date is useful depends on the public holiday rules, your employer, and the days you normally work.
A simple example
Suppose your normal weekend is Friday and Saturday and a public holiday falls on Sunday. If Thursday is a workday, taking Thursday as leave may connect Thursday through Sunday into four consecutive days away from work. If your weekend or holiday rules differ, the result will differ too.
Find bridge days with a Holiday Optimizer
Choose a country and available year in the Bridge-Day Holiday Optimizer. Set your normal workdays, leave budget, and target. The planner checks consecutive dates around public holidays, shows how many leave days each break uses, and lets you export a suitable option to a calendar.
Check before booking
Holiday calendars can include estimated lunar dates and regional observances. An employer may not observe every public holiday, and leave approval is always subject to workplace rules. Verify important dates with an official source and your employer.
